This week I took the job as the Discussion Director. To explain what I did this week I will be writing the questions below. I had 3 questions because I needed some space to write my answers which I wanted to do thoroughly. Below are the questions and then I will be writing my answer, labeled as P, Cosmo's answers labeled as C, and Anka's answer labeled as A.
1. What do you feel about Piscine (Pi's real name) being pronounced "pissing" when he was in middle school
P. I found it very unfortunate for him that he was nicknamed that for a whole year. It got very sad when the teachers unintentionally said it too. I think my favorite part of the book was when Pi made his comeback and proved to the whole school he should be called Pi after he listed all the digits of Pi in front of the math teacher.
C. Cosmo didn't mind it to much, he actually found it a bit funny. His exact words where "If Pi has a problem then he should eat Pie and forget about it, but it was also a little bit funny to me"
A. Anka didn't understand the problem because she expected that kind of behavior in middle school especially if your name is Piscine.
2.Were you surprised when the hyena killed the zebra and the orangutan?
P. I was not surprised by the hyena killing the orangutan and the zebra because fact is that the hyena is a natural predator. What did surprise me on the other hand is that there even was a hyena. From the cover of the book and the back I thought that the tiger was the main predator therefor it would be him who killed the zebra and orangutan.
C. Cosmo partly agreed with me. In his perspective he was suspicious of something else to become the victim for the tiger, so he was not surprised when the hyena attacked
A. Anka was surprised by the hyena but not as surprised when the hyena killed the two animals. Again because the hyena is a predator
3. Do you think Pi will kill or the tiger or escape with it?
P. I myself think that the tiger will survive but I am not so sure if they will live together. In other words I don't think Richard Parker will become a pet
C. Cosmo knew the tiger would survive because if not it would have been a very disappointing story
A. Anka thought eventually Pi will go crazy of hunger and then eat the tiger.
