The Hobbit #ExtraCredit

For my extra credit role I decided to be Vocabulary Enricher and from pages 112-233 i founded loads of words but i will just list the ones that were most odd to me. 
Here are my words : 

beeches - 
 any of a genus (Fagus of the family Fagaceae, the beech family) of hardwood trees with smooth gray bark and small edible nuts. - pg 147

wargs -
 Its also a more evil type of wolf, and has a bit of a deformed face.
In Norse mythology, a warg is a wolf and in particular refers to the wold Fenrir and his sons Skoll and Hati. - pg 130

attercop -
The part atter means a the spider web and cop means the poison part of it. pg - 159

portcullis - 
Is a strong and heavy grating that can be lowered down grooves on each side of a gateway to block it. -pg 176

gaily - 
a.) It means people with a bright or attractive appearance 
b.) Someone who is talking or doing a action in a lighthearted or cheerful way - pg 137

veranda -
A porch along side of a building. -pg 128

weary -
a.) feeling or showing extreme tiredness
b.) reluctant to see or experience anymore of anythig ; tired of
c.) cause to become tired 
d.) to grow tired or bored with someone -pg 172

gleam -
a.) shine brightly, especially with a reflected light
b.) a faint or brief light, especially one reflected from something- pg 141

whiff -
a.) a smell that is only smelt briefly or faintly
b.) a puff or breath of air or smoke
c.) get a brief or faint smell of - pg 222

scarlet - 
Something that's a brilliant red colour. - pg 218

famished -
It means to be extremely hungry. - pg 195

brutes -
a.) a savagely violent man or animal
b.) an animal opposed to a human being - pg 156

tassels -
A plural meaning of a tuft of loosely hanging threads or cords knotted at one end and attached for decoration to soft furnishings, clothing, or other items. - pg 127


solemnities - 

a.) the plural of being in the state or quality of being serious and dignified

b.) a formal, dignified rite or ceremony. - pg 195


boulders - 

A large rock, typically one that has been worn smooth by erosion. - pg 127
