LIFE OF PI- TRAVEL TRACER- NIKOLA LALIC

Life of Pi
Author: Yann Martel
Pages: 314/ 314

Hello dear blog readers! My group and I have finished "The Life of Pi", and my overall impressions are not very positive. The book does simply not suite me, and I dislike books that are not very direct in terms of the plot and what is going on. In general, I personally dislike the book. This time, my role was to be the "Travel Tracer". What the "Travel Tracer" does, is he/she tracks and describes the setting during one period of the book. In this case, I explained the settings from the 200th to the 314th page. Here is what I wrote for each one of the points:

1. Where does the action begin?
- The action begins in Pi's lifeboat/raft. He and his comrade, Richard Parker, are oaring the seas in search for any signs of human life. Pi is forced to do many rigorous and difficult tasks, and it is truly a struggle to survive for him and Parker. Despite the odds, Pi manages to maintain order and survive on the little raft. At one point, he starts loosing control, and he is forced to "tame" Richard Parker.

2. Where the key/crucial events happen?
- The key events still occur on the boat, but the weather conditions happen to be much more different than before. Pi and Richard are forced to battle a ferocious storm, and are struggling to keep the boat from capsizing and sinking. After the storm subsides, Pi and Parker notice a huge oil tanker in the distance, but due to poor aiming by Pi, the tanker misses and nearly sinks the little boat. With this hopeless turn of events, the two are driven into madness in the wide blue ocean, without even a little speck of potential land.

3. Where the final events occur?
- The final events occur in a variety of different settings. Luckily for the two, after some time, they manage to reach land, but it is only a un-inhabited and wild island. After stocking up on resources and necessities, the two characters continue their struggle to reach shore. At one point, Pi becomes completely mad, and his boat turns over along with him, and he looses consciousness. Despite these ill tidings, through a major dose of luck, Pi, without Richard Parker, manages to coincidentally wash up on land. After this, he is spotted by a group of people from a village, and the people rush in to help. Despite the point that Pi and these people speak different languages (they speak Spanish), the villagers call the ambulance, and Pi is rushed into the hospital. It would turn out he washed ashore a coast in Mexico. After he is hospitalized and aided, an inspection from the company which the "Tsimtsum" belong to, came to talk with Pi. Pi explains all his ordeals and near death situations, but the Japanese company negates his theory, and here the book ends.

This is most likely by last blog post of the year, so I do hope that you did enjoy all or at least some of my posts this school year. After the summer, I will return. Hope you tune in for the next post! NL

Short story- The bully

HI GUYS,

SHORT STORY
Roger Dean  Kiser
The Bully

1. How does the character of Tony change throughout the short story?
Tony changes from when he was big tough a bully in high school who bullied Roger because Roger had no parents and was in a orphanage, and also he was making fun of Rogers looks. But now he is very sorry about the way he acted and is trying to make up with Roger.
2. How does this change affect Roger?
I believe that at the beginning he was a bit wary about being friends with Tony again after all the bullying he has received from him, but in the end he changed his mind about it and i think he was quite happy about having a friend from high school.
3. What do you think Tony meant when he said, "I guess you're thinking, 'what goes around comes around"'?
I think that he meant that he was getting some sort of karma for bullying Tony in school, that is why he is in a wheel chair.
4. Why do you think the author wrote this story? What message did the author want to convey?
I think that the author wanted to teach us that some people need second chances, and that we should give them.

The Bully - Cosmo

Hello, I'm Cosmo and because my group finished all our books for literature circles we have to analyze a short story. Enjoy.

The Bully
Roger Dean Kiser

The bully is a literary short story about giving people a second chance while facing the consequences of Karma. In short, the story is about a boy called Roger, who meets his seventh grade bully at a restaurant. He broke his spine and needs his wife to push him around. Roger is completely fine, and while they discuss karma, they become friends again. There are several blog questions.

1. How does Tony's (the bully's) character change throughout the story?
At first he felt a little bad because he met up with his little victim from middle school but then all was forgiven and they started laughing.

2. How does this change affect Roger?
He feels nicer because finally he has friends

3. What do you think Tony meant when he said, "I guess you're thinking, what goes around comes around"?
Karma for all the bad things he did earlier in middle school to Roger

4. Why do you think the author wrote this story? What message did the author want to convey?
He wanted to convey that people should have a second chance because if you do something once you might not entirely mean it so it is not accurate to judge a person on one action.

That concludes my blog post :)

The Bully Roger Dean Kiser

Hello
Today we did something different because we finished the book.  We read a short story called The bully and we were given various questions to think about and answer.
1. How does the character of Tony change throughout the story.
Tony in high school did many things to bully Roger so maybe he was jealous and later in life he after he broke his back and couldn't walk anymore he realized the beauty in life and got a wife and became a good person
2. How does this change affect Roger.
It changes Roger's perspective on Tony and makes him want to give him a second chance.  He also wants to start a friendship with Tony so they can start over
3:What do you think Tony meant when he said, "I guess you're thinking, 'What goes around comes around'"
I think he meant that because he embarrassed Roger so much he deserved breaking his spine.  In other words it was Karma
4.  Why do you think the author wrote this story?  What message did the author want to convey
He wants to convey that everyone can change and that people, even the horrible ones, deserve a second chance

Thank you

Job: Discussion director

Hello everyone, this time I was the discussion director. My job is to combine five important questions and discuss about them with my group mates. So these are my questions and my group's answers.

  1. Why was Pi worried when the first night on the rescue boat was coming?                                     My answer: Because if a ship for help was coming to rescue him, they wouldn't be able to see them. And the animals were getting hungry which could become dangerous, if they start eating everything they find. My group mates agreed to this answer.
  2. Why was the hyena vomiting?                                                                                                         Because it was sea sick and there was no other food except for the animals, but it was aware that she is weaker than the others and that it would get eaten rather than it eats something else. My group mates also agreed to this.
  3. Why did Pi survive and his family didn't?                                                                                   He couldn't sleep and so he went out on the deck. When the ship started sinking he saved himself by going on to the rescue boat. The water came in too quickly so his family died.
  4. How did Pi survive, with no food and water?                                                                             He found a locker full of emergency supplies, with water and emergency rations, when it was raining he collected fresh water and he fished.
  5. What safety precautions did Pi make to survive with the tiger?                                                 He makes a raft off the boat so the tiger can't get to him easily.                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Hope you liked it.

LIFE OF PI BY: YANN MARTEL- LITERARY LUMINARY

25/5/2015

Literary Luminary

Hello dear blogger readers! My group and I are still reading "The Life of Pi". We are going to be finished with the book on the next rotation, and so we will be finished with the literature circles. In my opinion, this part of the book was better than the last, because it had more action, and the plot is revealed, which in this case is the "Tsimtsum" a cargo ship, sinking. This time, I was the literary luminary, and my task was to take, interesting, odd, funny or significant parts of the book, in this case paragraphs or sentences, copy them down, and explain them. Here are the five paragraphs or sentences I had, and what I wrote about them:

- (Sample) 177(Page) #2 (Paragraph). "It was a leap of faith" (Sentence). It was very significant because he nearly died in this part (Explanation).

1. 106 #1. "Richard Parker did not jump into the water after me. I held on to it as I reached for the life buoy, now vacant of its previous occupant." This paragraph is important because it signals a turning point in the story, were the boat sinks and hope for Pi dwindles.

2. 107 #5. "I watched the ship as it disappeared with much burbling and belching. Lights flickered and went out." I simply like this sentence as the description is quite good, and the sentence is very interesting. It adds a good impression of the ship sinking, and it describes the setting quite well.

3. 112 #6. "Right now in Tokyo, in Panama city, in Madras, in Honolulu, why, even in Winnipeg, red lights were blinking on consoles, alarm bells were ringing, eyes were opening wide in horror, mouths were gasping, 'My God!' the 'Tsitmtsum' has sunk!" This part is crucial in the book, as it signals that Pi still has hope of being rescued, despite his very bad situation.

4. 169 #5. "It was no longer perpendicular to the waves but broadside to them and was beginning to role from side-to-side , that rolling was un-settling for the stomach." This sentence represents Pi's struggles to survive in the blue and large Pacific ocean.

5. 192 #1. "I did not count the days or weeks or the months. Time is an illusion that makes us pont. I survived because I forgot the very notion of time." Very good description, once again it symbolizes the despair of the character.

I hope you enjoyed the blog post! Tune in for more!

Author: Yann Martel
Pgs read: 100/325

Hello all. This time I am the travel tracer for the "Life of Pi".
So the action starts in India in the zoo that Pi's father owns. The zoo is full of all kinds of animals. The key of the action is on the ship, called Tsimtsum. They are in the ocean and the ship starts sinking, luckily Pi didn't sleep that night and he went out. And when the ship sank he jumped in one of the rescue boats. The action doesn't end, but so far Pi is on the rescue boat with the tiger, alone in the middle of the ocean.
Thanks for reading, hope you liked it.

"LIFE OF PI" BY: YANN MARTEL

Author: Yann Martel
Pages Read: 100/319

Hello dear blog readers! My group and I have started reading "The Life of Pi", and so far my impressions are not very positive. Though I am absolutely aware that there is a heavy dose of symbolism in the story, it is still very hard to track, and the book has no clear order. Of course, this is my opinion, and I do not negate any others opinions. This time I was the art director, and my task was to draw a picture related to a significant part of the story. This time, I drew a scene were the cargo ship "Tsimtsum" sinks, and Pi manages to survive on a lifeboat. He is stuck with a group of animals, and know he needs to survive in the huge pacific ocean. Below, you can see the image that I drew, and the scene I made:
(My image on a sideways profile)
In this scene from the 97th page from the book, we see the cargo ship "Tsimtsum" bent on a side, and sinking into the Pacific ocean. As visible, huge, tall waves surround the ship, eventually causing it to completely turn over and to sink. In the front, we see the main character and a group of animals on the boat, and the ship has been set on fire due to oil spills and events as such. My image comes from page 97, when the ship gets hit by the storm.

In general, so far I dislike the book. The author definitely has a different approach towards his novel, but I simply do not like novels that are very indirect, and that do not clearly define what is going on. Though a large amount of symbolism is present, this dose is still too much for my taste, and I simply do not like the book so far. Hopefully, the following parts will be better, as the action is yet to dramatically rise, and the character is going to hopefully go through a series of problems in order to survive in the terrible conditions of the Pacific ocean.I hope you enjoyed my blog, and definetly tune in for more posts! TRAVEL TRACER - LIFE OF PI

Hi everyone, today I was the travel tracer for the Life of Pi, page 159 to the end (318). The travel tracer keeps track of the setting while reading through the plotline. The author of the book is Yann Martel.

About 90% of the section that we read was set on the waves of the pacific with just Pi and Richard Parker (tiger), where they were castaways and always fought for food, they also stumbled an island made of algae where he spent weeks there. But for a majority of the time he just spent his time on the lifeboat trying to survive with Richard Parker.

The mood, however was very dynamic and interesting in the story. It went from tragic while he wept over his family and his very unfortunate situation, to straight out happy because he caught a five foot dorado.

In all, there wasn't much about the setting in this part of the story, but it was still amazing to read and I recommend it.

Have a nice day,
Cosmo

Discussion director for the life of Pi

Hey guys,
This time I was the discussion director and we read from page 159 to 318 (which is the end of the book).
For my job i have to while reading the book think of questions for my group.
My four questions were:

If you were Pi when he was plotting the course of the life boat would you go west were you came from, east to America, north to Asia, south to the shipping lanes or would u just allow yourself to drift?
ANSWERS
Anka: I think that I would just let myself drift because I would not know where exactly to go and it would be also very hard to row.
Cosmo: I would either let myself drift or back from where i started.

Do you think that you will be able to train the tiger the way Pi did?

ANSWER
Anka: No, I would just stay in one corner protected on  the boat and make sure that the tiger is stuffed so that he wont feel the urge to eat me.

Do you think that you be attached to the tiger a much as Pi was?

ANSWER
Anka: I don't think that i would be as attached as Pi was but i would miss him a bit.

Would you believe in Pi's story?
ANSWERS
Cosmo and Anka: We would defiantly not believe because it sounds impossible that you can live on small boat for quite some time with a tiger and not die!

The Hobbit - Travel Tracer

Hi, everyone, today we finished "The Hobbit"! This time my job is the Travel Tracer. This job is basically the same as the summarizer, the different is in this job, I need to track the setting and where the action take place. This is what I have for this job.

Where the action begins:
They are at the Lonely mountain, trying to open the door. They didn't make it for a long time.

Where the key events happened:
- Bilbo saw the keyhole when the moonlight shines on the door
- Bilbo waked up the dragon in the treasure by an accident
- The dragon went to attack the river town, but it was killed
- Bilbo's group was "debating" with the elf & the people from the river town for the gold in the mountain.
- Thorin don't want to share the gold with others
- The army of dwarf and lots of armies of orks came
- The battle of the five army
- Thorin realized that friends is more important then gold.
- Thorin joined the war
- The elf leaved the war
- Thorin was going to kill the head of the orcs
- Thorin was killed, but he ended the war.

Where the events ended:
Bilbo went home, he had a quiet life alone setting in his room after the war.

That is the end of the story, I like this book very much. It tells me that it is never late to change your mind of doing things right.

At the end, the pictures of the hobbits!!!

Hello, in this blog I was the art director, and the drawing above was drawn by me. It is supposed to describe the scene where Bilbo Baggins, the burglar, steals a golden cup from the evil Smaug to prove his company that the treasure is still there and that he is a good burglar. He gets into Smaug's caves unnoticed by using The One Ring Of Power, which makes him invisible, but the Smaug smells him. As soon as he smells him he counts the treasure and sees that a cup is missing. He then rages and tries to find the company.
The picture is pretty much labeled, so even though my artistic skills are not the best, you can recognize the setting and the scene.

THE HOBBIT- WORD ENRICHER- J.R.R TOLKIEN

Date: 7/5/2015
Author: J.R.R Tolkien
Pages read: 306/306
Hello dear blog readers! My group and I have finished "The Hobbit". My impressions are in general quite good, but I must say that I like the movies more than I like the book, simply because the climax is dragged out to one whole move, instead of just fifteen pages in the book. This week my role was to be the word enricher, and the role of the enricher is to give fourteen words, write the paragraph and page they are on, and give their definitions. Here is the list of the words that I found interesting between pages 200 and 306:

1. Here is a sample: 222,6 (Page and paragraph), Whirring (Word), to produce a vibrating or buzzing sound (definition). There was a whirring sound to be heard in the basement (sentence, only 5 words).

1. 219,2. Whirring. To produce a vibrating or buzzing sound. The whirring sound was spreading throughout the caves.
2. 230,2. Lure. To tempt or attract someone or something. I was luring the the mouse into a trap using cheese.
3. 263,1. Fragrance. A pleasant and sweet smell. I was testing out the Fragrance of the many perfumes in the shop.
4. 266,1. Parley. Discussing diplomatic matters; such as declaring a true. "I will never parley with my greatest enemy!" said the knight.
5. 266,4. Weariness. A physical or mental exhaustion. Weariness had taken me after the day of work at the farm.
6. 275,3. Casket. A coffin; for burial. We witnessed the casket with the body being taken into the grave; it was a sad occasion.
7. 278,5. Deceit. Concealing the truth; for whatever purpose. He had a very deceitful look in his eyes, like he was not telling me something.
8. 283,2. Multitude. A great number or host. In front of the city walls, a great multitude of warriors assembled.
9. 287,3. Smite. To hit with great strength; to hit very hard. He smite the man to the ground, and slew him.
10. 291,3. Re-doubled. To double someone once again. They re-doubled the player once again in order to make him not score any points.
11. 297,2. Withered. To fade or to decay.
12. 298,2. Gloaming. Twilight, the period before the night.
13. 305,1. Tilled. To labor and to work around.
14. 304,1. Queer. Unusually different; odd in a way.

After finishing the book, my group and I will start reading "The Life of Pi". I am looking foward to the book! Tune in for more posts! NL

Life of Pi - Literary Luminary - Cosmo 7b - Pg 0 to 159

Hello everybody,
today I was chosen by my group to be the literary luminary for the first half of the book Life of Pi. The main character in this story is an adolescent boy named Pi from India, who has quite an interesting life with interesting adventures with an interesting mindset. The job of a literary luminary in literature circles is to single out interesting pieces of writing in the story. Today I have three examples for you. The author of the book is Yann Martel.

1. page 38, in the 9th paragraph Pi's father had a very long speech about how all of the animals are dangerous in the zoo, but once they arrive by the guinea pigs his theory is smashed because they aren't dangerous in any way. This is interesting because now his father is trying to teach his boy something which is relevant once again one hundred pages later in the story. Plus, its something interesting to think about.

2. page 66, in the 2nd paragraph Pi's parents and his religious teachers discover that Pi practices Hinduism, Christian and the Islam. Everybody is in shock because it is very uncommon to have a Hindu boy practice three religions. It is important to the story because it later influences his choices as we paddles on his raft along the pacific.

3. page 127, in the 3rd paragraph. Pi is extremely scared because the animals are fighting for survival on his lifeboat. The hyena and the orangutan are duking it out, for the monkey to die. Pi is in terror, but even more so for the 450 pound Bengal tiger, because of how ferocious it is. For the reading it is really exciting because it is full of interesting events to read about, plus the dynamic part and all the tension make it a very fun piece of literature to devour.

This concludes my blog post for life of Pi, the first part. Thanks for reading and hope you had a wonderful day,
Cosmo

Life of Pi discussion director

Hello,
This week I took the job as the Discussion Director. To explain what I did this week I will be writing the questions below.  I had 3 questions because I needed some space to write my answers which I wanted to do thoroughly.  Below are the questions and then  I will be writing my answer, labeled as P, Cosmo's answers labeled as C, and Anka's answer labeled as A.

1. What do you feel about Piscine (Pi's real name) being pronounced "pissing"  when he was in middle school
P.  I found it very unfortunate for him that he was nicknamed that for a whole year.  It got very sad when the teachers unintentionally said it too.  I think my favorite part of the book was when Pi made his comeback and proved to the whole school he should be called Pi after he listed all the digits of Pi in front of the math teacher.
C.  Cosmo didn't mind it to much, he actually found it a bit funny.  His exact words where "If Pi has a problem then he should eat Pie and forget about it, but it was also a little bit funny to me"
A. Anka didn't understand the problem because she expected that kind of behavior in middle school especially if your name is Piscine.

2.Were you surprised when the hyena killed the zebra and the orangutan?
P. I was not surprised by the hyena killing the orangutan and the zebra because fact is that the hyena is a natural predator.  What did surprise me on the other hand is that there even was a hyena.  From the cover of the book and the back I thought that the tiger was the main predator therefor it would be him who killed the zebra and orangutan.
C. Cosmo partly agreed with me.  In his perspective he was suspicious of something else to become the victim for the tiger, so he was not surprised when the hyena attacked
A.  Anka was surprised by the hyena but not as surprised when the hyena killed the two animals.  Again because the hyena is a predator

3.  Do you think Pi will kill or the tiger or escape with it?
P.  I myself think that the tiger will survive but I am not so sure if they will live together.  In other words I don't think Richard Parker will become a pet
C. Cosmo knew the tiger would survive because if not it would have been a very disappointing story
A.  Anka thought eventually Pi will go crazy of hunger and then eat the tiger.

The Hobbit J.R.R Tolkien Connector

The main connection of the book and real life was the setting of the book.  From day 1 to the end of the battle of the five armies Bilbo Baggins and his crew are traveling from place to place.  The crew met new friends, old friends as well as new enemies and old enemies.  The reason this is a connection is because as international students we often move to different places around the world.  Of course the characters moved more and faster but it is still the same idea.  In my opinion I think of their course from Mirkwood to the lonely mountain was about the same as my journey from Norway to Serbia.  It is a whole new experience meeting new people and so on. Another connection that caught my eye was when the crew was with Thorin when he died.  Unfortunately he had been killed during the battle of the five armies.  You might wonder why this is a connection but at the age of 2 i Knew my grandma died when her heart stopped.  The difference is that when Thorin died and Kili and Fili too, the line of Durin was cut and that was slightly worse for the dwarfs.  It would be hard for them to keep living without kinds while i have lived my whole life without my grandma.

Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolken

Hi Guys,
Last time we had our meting we decided to finish all 305 pages of the book, and during reading this book is was supposed to record all the places they went.
The book looks like this:
The action begins when that have just escaped from the trolls and they are planning their trip to go through the forest and how to get to Smaug (Smaug is the dragon that stole all the lonely village's gold). The key events happened in the forest where they made many useful friends and they made some enemies, but the the most exciting part of the book was when Bilbo was looking through  Smaug's cave and talking to Smaug.  Also when they killed Smaug and the war started because they were all fighting for the gold which Smaug protected. The events ended when the battle finished and Bilbo, is friends and the citizens of the village in front of the lonely mountain won. Bilbo is riding home with Gandulf escorting him. When he gets home he finds that all his belongings has been on auction and his house was almost sold too, but it was fine because he bought knew things, he got to keep his house and the dwarves visited him time to time.

Hi everyone! This time my job is the Illustrator. My job is to draw a picture related to what I read in the book and write the reason of why do I draw it. We read through half of the book right now! There is a skin changer in the chapter we just read. He is the last skin changer know, but there were a lot of them before. In my drawing, I was thinking about the time they are lot of skin changers. The drawing is the clan of skin changers based on my imagination. The animals are all skin changers.

THE HOBBIT-DISCUSSION DIRECTOR

Author: J.R.R Tolkien
Pages read: 200/306
Role: Discussion Director

Hello dear blog readers! I have recently read another portion of my "Literature circles" book, "The Hobbit", by J.R.R Tolkien. The action has really began heating up, as the group have now completed the "easier" part of their adventure, with of course some severe difficulties. This week, I was the discussion director, and my role was to lead a discussion about the book, and to ask five questions, and record other peoples answers. Unfortunately, due to a big misunderstanding, I did not have a chance to record anyone's opinions, so I only have my own. Please note that this blog post will be a little bit shorter than the others, as I simply do not have as much writing content as I needed to receive. So, here are the questions I asked, and my answers to them:

1. Do you think that Gandalf's move to leave the Dwarves in front of the perilous forest of Mirkwood was a just move? ANSWER: Yes, I think it was. After all, he (Gandalf) was never forced to lead the expedition to reclaim Erebor. So, it is in his hands to make all the choices and decisions because he is the ring-leader of the group.

2. Do you think that Biblo Baggins should have slain Gollum in the caves of the Misty Mountains? ANSWER: No, because it would later turn out that Gollum would be a key character in "The Lord of the Rings" series, as she would lead Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee into the dangerous land of Mordor were they would throw the One ring of power into the fires of mount doom, and would end all evil in Middle-Earth forever.

3. Would you have hosted the Dwarves after they arrived at Esgaroth (Lake-town)? ANSWER: No, I would have not. Simply accepting strangers into your home would not be an acceptable option, because they are un-characteristic travelers, that would only bring ill-tidings.

4. Would you have risked your life like Bilbo Baggins did in order to save the Dwarves from Thranduil's guards? ANSWER: Yes. If I had the ring that Biblo had, that would make me invisible, I definitely would have tried saving the Dwarves, because the risks are minimal if you are invisible, and so, the likeliness of saving the Dwarves would have been much higher than without the ring.

5. Overall impressions of this part of the book? ANSWER: Good. This part has definitely been more interesting and more action-packed than the first one, and I really enjoyed the book so far. I am definitely looking forward to the next part of the book, and the true climax.

Thank you for reading my post, and tune in for more!

The Hobbit - J.R.R.TOLKIEN - Chapters 1 to 6 - Cosmo - Summarizer

HOMEWORK PASS

The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien

Hello,
Today i am the summarizer  in my group, in my group there are Per, Cosmo and I. We decided together that we should read up to page 91.
At the beginning of the book we get a little description of the Hobbits house, hobbits  are  human looking  and very short. This particular Hobbit was called Bilbo Baggins. He lives underground in a very spacious area. One day Gandulf (he is a wizard) am knocking on Bilbo's door and let himself in, Gandulf had a proposition to make, that if Bilbo goes n an adventure with Gandulf and a group of dwarfs, Baggins could not decide so, Gandulf a few days later with the dwarfs and they managed to persuade Baggins to go on their adventure to go to the dragon (his name is Smuag) in a big mounting and get back their stolen treasure.

Throughout the beginning of the journey they were not having much troubles, they ran into a couple of predators but no one got hurt. Later on it started to rain so they hid in a dry cave to rest only they did not know that in this cave lived goblins. They got attacked by the goblins and teh dwarfs barely made it out, only Baggins fell and hit his heaf, and when he woke up he could not find his way out. Baggins looked around for a while when finnaly he stumbled into Gullum. Gullum is a magical creature that had lived in the dark caves for a very long time. The Gullum was very hungry and wanted to eat Baggins but instead they made a deal that they would ask the other person riddles and whoever did not know teh answer got eaten. They played for a very long time till Baggins asked a question to Gullum and Gullum did not know the answer. Gullum gpt annoyed and would not let Baggins be free,  just he did not know that Baggins had Gullums ring that makes you invisible. So finnaly Baggins managed to get out of the cave safely and "invisible".

The Hobbit Chapters 1-6 Summarizer

Warning:  In the book The hobbit instead of dwarfs it is written dwarves

Week: 1
Book:  The Hobbit
Pages: 92/306
Author: J.R.R Tolkien

Hello Everybody, this meeting everybody in my group (Anka, Cosmo, and I) has been given the job of a summarizer.   After reading the first 92 pages a lot of interesting things have happened  such as the meeting of the dwarfs,  the encounter of the goblins and trolls and lastly their struggle through a mountain rumble.

In the first few pages of the book, the hobbit Bilbo Baggins was greeted by a wizard named Gandalf the Grey who asked him to go on an adventure.  Later a company of dwarves greeted him at his door one after one.  He then decided to become their burglar and went on a journey with them.  On their quest they came across a group of 3 trolls.  The dwarves were defeated but when they thought all hope was Gandalf had saved them by transforming the three horrid creatures into stone which they were once made of.  When they were on their way to the goblin cave they stumbled across what one of my partners named a Mountain rumble.  The mountains they were traveling through woke to life and were fighting among each other.  The company barely got out alive.  Lastly the dwarves were tricked into a goblin palace were they were away by a hoard of Goblins.  Bilbo got away but stumbled across a weird creature named Gollum.  When Gollum discovered Bilbo they created a compromise.  They would play a game of riddles and either Bilbo would be led out, if he won, or he would be eaten, if he lost.  He had gotten a token that Gollum lost which he just thought of as the ring.  He barely got away once Gollum noticed the ring was missing.

Thank You for Reading,

Per Malmin

SUMMARIZER- "THE HOBBIT" BY: J.R.R TOLKIEN

Pages read: 100/306
Author: J.R.R Tolkien

Hello dear blog readers! My group and I have started reading a new book for our literature circle books. We chose two books, those being: "The Hobbit", and "The Life of Pi". We decided to read "The Hobbit" first, and we decided to take less time onto it, as "The Life of Pi" is a book with a deeper meaning. This week, I was the summarizer, and my role was to summarize what we read so far, and write in the key points. Though we only read 1/3 of the book, it has been very eventful so far, and the plot has been moving very rapidly. So, here is a summary of the first one-hundred page of this book:

The book begins in a place called the "Shire". The Shire is a place were all Hobbits live. Hobbits are human-like beings, but of a smaller stature, and their legs are un-proportionally large. Hobbits are very peaceful creatures, not interested in the affairs of other races, and they were always quiet and shy. In the Shire their lived a respected Hobbit, named Bilbo Baggins. He was a well respected Hobbit, and never did anything extraordinary. One day, a wizard by the name of Gandalf visits the Shire. He asks if Bilbo wants to head on an adventure, and Biblo refuses. The following night, something unexpected happens. Dwarves start coming to Biblo's house, and after all of them came in, Gandalf him self comes in. Biblo, shocked by the presence of Dwarves coming in  to his house, asks Gandalf why they all came, and Gandalf then finally gives the true reason. Far to the west, there lie a mountain named Erebor. Once it was prosperous and rich, and was the main kingdom of the Dwarves. Most famous of all was the mountains treasure hoard. Then, one misfortune day came, and destroyed all the Dwarves inside, and slaughtered the people of Dale who lived next to Erebor. From that day on, the Dwarves swore to kill the dragon, and reclaim their homeland. So the twelve Dwarves, Gandalf and Bilbo decided to reclaim the mountain, and take back what was truly Dwarvish. In order to reach Erebor, they must follow a treacherous road, that has for many years been un-guarded, and foul creatures such as orcs or trolls roam around searching for their next victims. And so, there treacherous quest begins. During the first few nights, the situation is calm, but one day, after resting in a nearby village for the night, The crew are captured by a band of Trolls (huge evil creatures, much larger than men), and are soon going to be eaten. But luckily, they manage to stall until the sun rises, and so the Trolls are turned to stone due to the point they are very sensitive towards the sun. After this close encounter, they continue towards the city of Imladris. Here they meet the Elven king called Elrond, who gives them the instructions how to continue their journey, and gives other valuable advice. Then, the gang reach the misty mountains. The misty mountains are a tall and a long mountain range separating a large section of Middle-Earth. Luckily, being dwellers in Mountains, the Dwarves manage to navigate through, but, soon, they are captured by a band of orcs after falling through a collapsed cave. Here they are captured, and interrogated. Luckily, Bilbo manages to escape, but is lost in a cave. Here he meets a strange creature by the name of Gollum, who possesses a mystic ring. Bilbo takes the ring in secret, and agrees with Gollum to play a game of riddles, and if Bilbo wins, Gollum will show him the way out, but if he looses, Gollum will eat him. Being skillful, Biblo manages to win, but Gollum starts raging about his ring, as it is a prized possession of his. Luckily, with a lot of luck, Bilbo manages to maneuver through the caves, and reaches the exit, where he finally unifies himself with the rest of the company.

Here is where I stopped reading, and I hoped you enjoyed my blog, and tune in for more!

"The Hobbit" by Tolkien
Hello people, for these literature circles my group and I are reading the "The Hobbit". My job is the Summarizer and we've read 100/306 pages.
The Summary:
The book begins by saying things about hobbits and Bilbo Baggins who is one of them. Then a wizards, Gandalf, comes and asks him to go on a possibly dangerous journey. At first Bilbo just wants to stick home and eat his six meals every day and do nothing but enjoy life. But then Gandalf and twelve other dwarfs convince him to come to the journey. Their goal is to kill the smaug, evil dragon, and get back the gold and treasure that was lost long ago.
They are being attacked by many dangers  and creatures. These are the key points:
      1. The very first event is the dwarfs convincing Bilbo to come with them on the journey.
      2. The second one is them preparing and starting the journey.
      3. Then they encounter the trolls, that trapped the whole group except for Gandalf, who then made noises that the trolls would hear and argue about if they should go and investigate. They argued for hours and when the sun came out they turned into stones. Trolls die of sunlight. This is how they got over the first obstacle. They also took their weapons, which were the goblin-killers.
      4. As a storm came they had to hide in a cave. In that cave there lived goblins. They asked what weapons the group carried. Unfortunately they carried the trolls' weapons which were the goblin-killers. The goblins of course got angry and tried killing the group. As the group ran the eagles friends of dwarfs and sworn enemies of goblins came and saved the group from getting slaughtered brutally.
      5. And the fifth key point was when Bilbo was in a cave with a hungry creature called the gollum. Since Bilbo didn't know the way out and the gollum was hungry to play a riddle game. If the gollum wins he gets to eat Bilbo, and if Bilbo wins the gollum shows him the way out. But Bilbo found a ring and put it in his pocket, so he asked the question:"What do I have in my pocket". The gollum didn't know so he raged and tried to eat Bilbo. But the ring had the power of making Bilbo invisible. And Bilbo instead of fighting and probably dying ran away unseen.

Summarizer - The Hobbit by Jrr Tolkien

My job is the summarizer for this cycle. Here is the summary I wrote:

There is a hobbit named Bilbo who lived in a hobbit hole. His life was normal before a wizard named Gandalf “interrupted” him. One day, he knocked on Bilbo’s door and told him that they are going to an adventure. He also made a mark on Bilbo's door. The next day, a lots of dwarfs came in and cleared his kitchen. After that, Gandalf came and invited Bilbo to their team. They were not lucky at all. They meet the trolls just at the first night. They will not escape if they don't have Gandalf that shines the morning light to the trolls that can turn them in to stone. After that, they get some no big trouble for next few days. After that, they meet the elf while frighting with spiders in the forest.

and after a long journey, they meet the elf.
