For this part of the book my task was "Travel Tracer". The task of a " Travel Tracer" is to explain the place where the chosen part of the book " Life of Pi" begins ends and the middle part of the chosen part of the book occurs. This time my group and me decided to read from chapter thirty-seven to chapter seventy-two. 

1. Where does chapter thirty-seven begin?

This chapter begins with an opening sentence "the ship sank". In the begging of this chapter Pi does not tell us why or how, but he does inform us that he is on a lifeboat and that it is very windy and cold outside. Pi still does not believe that his parents and Ravi are still not with him and he gets worried.   Richard Parker is with Pi as well, he had  some difficulties coming in to the lifeboat but Pi help his and the tiger came and now sailing with Pi. 

2. Where does the middle part from chapter thirty-seven to chapter seventy-two occur?

Pi and his animals are still on the lifeboat, Pi is really scared and he is trying to get some food but not succeeding. At night, Pi is really scared because he hears barking and squealing from the animals that are in the lifeboat with him. One morning when Pi woke and saw that the zebras broken leg was missing, later he found out that the hyena eat the zebras leg.  That night the hyena nearly kills the zebra, but the zebra is barely alive, that night Pi is getting used to the fact that his parents and Ravi might be drowned and dead. 

3. Where does the end of chapter seventy-two occur?

Pi is still on the lifeboat and he is describing and explains how to train a tiger.  Pi also begins stage two in training the RP.

The job I did this time was Summarizer. The parts that I summarized for this time were from chapter 37 to 72.  In the beginning Pi is on the boat, and he is helping the tiger named Richard Parker who is about to drown on to the boat and when Richard Parker gets on the boat Pi jumps overboard. Afterwards Pi starts to tell how Richard Parker is on the boat. What happens is that the weather starts to become really bad and heavy rain starts to fall. After Pi notices the heavy rain and something is really gone bad, someone throws him overboard on a boat. Once Pi is on the boat a Zebra jumps on the boat and managing to break the bench of the boat but no harm to the actual boat is visible. Pi is fine in the boat with a tiger but noticed that Richard Parker still hasn't eaten the zebra but then sees next to the zebra is hyena. After awhile Pi sees a Orangutan shows up to the boat. The next day Pi sees that the Zebra's broken leg is gone so he knows that hyena ripped the leg off. For the next few days the Zebra starts to die due to the tiger eating him. After the Zebra died the Orangutan and the hyena are having a fight. In the end Orangutan dies. Now it was only Pi and Richard Parker. Pi and Richard Parker starts off having a hard time figuring who sleeps where and Pi is still scared of Richard Parker but the more days it has gone Pi starts to become more or less the master of the boat. When Pi is on the boat he has trouble getting food and surviving.

I was the connector for this part of the book. In this part of the book, Pi gets stranded at sea in a life boat. In the boat was a tiger, hyena, zebra, and orangutan. The hyena eventually kills and eats the zebra, but it is for nothing when the tiger, Richard Parker, eats the hyena. Pi has to survive on the boat with a vicious tiger and an orangutan. He has to fish to get food and create shelter to live. At first, the sinking of the ship reminded me of the sinking of the Titanic. It left almost everyone dead. The survivors had to escape in life boats, but unlike Pi, were quickly picked up by another boat. When fishing, Pi was not very successful. It was his first time and he was very unfamiliar to the sport. It reminded me of the first time I had tried to fish. I was very unsuccessful, and like Pi I couldn't even catch one fish. It seemed like the fish weren't even interested in me. It was very disappointing, but like Pi I kept trying. Eventually he caught a fish and was later able to catch much more to feed himself and the tiger. Although I had kept trying to catch fish, I was never really able to catch one like Pi.

In my group I asked how they could also connect to this particular part of the book. Rin said that like Pi she also has tried to fish and failed. And Aleksa said he had also went fishing, but like Pi eventually was successful and caught a couple fish. That is the connections we found between the real world and the book.

Hello dear blog readers! My group and I have finished "The Life of Pi", and my overall impressions are not very positive. The book does simply not suite me, and I dislike books that are not very direct in terms of the plot and what is going on. In general, I personally dislike the book. This time, my role was to be the "Travel Tracer". What the "Travel Tracer" does, is he/she tracks and describes the setting during one period of the book. In this case, I explained the settings from the 200th to the 314th page. Here is what I wrote for each one of the points:

1. Where does the action begin?
- The action begins in Pi's lifeboat/raft. He and his comrade, Richard Parker, are oaring the seas in search for any signs of human life. Pi is forced to do many rigorous and difficult tasks, and it is truly a struggle to survive for him and Parker. Despite the odds, Pi manages to maintain order and survive on the little raft. At one point, he starts loosing control, and he is forced to "tame" Richard Parker.

2. Where the key/crucial events happen?
- The key events still occur on the boat, but the weather conditions happen to be much more different than before. Pi and Richard are forced to battle a ferocious storm, and are struggling to keep the boat from capsizing and sinking. After the storm subsides, Pi and Parker notice a huge oil tanker in the distance, but due to poor aiming by Pi, the tanker misses and nearly sinks the little boat. With this hopeless turn of events, the two are driven into madness in the wide blue ocean, without even a little speck of potential land.

3. Where the final events occur?
- The final events occur in a variety of different settings. Luckily for the two, after some time, they manage to reach land, but it is only a un-inhabited and wild island. After stocking up on resources and necessities, the two characters continue their struggle to reach shore. At one point, Pi becomes completely mad, and his boat turns over along with him, and he looses consciousness. Despite these ill tidings, through a major dose of luck, Pi, without Richard Parker, manages to coincidentally wash up on land. After this, he is spotted by a group of people from a village, and the people rush in to help. Despite the point that Pi and these people speak different languages (they speak Spanish), the villagers call the ambulance, and Pi is rushed into the hospital. It would turn out he washed ashore a coast in Mexico. After he is hospitalized and aided, an inspection from the company which the "Tsimtsum" belong to, came to talk with Pi. Pi explains all his ordeals and near death situations, but the Japanese company negates his theory, and here the book ends.

This is most likely by last blog post of the year, so I do hope that you did enjoy all or at least some of my posts this school year. After the summer, I will return. Hope you tune in for the next post! NL

The Bully 

1. How does the character of Tony change throughout the short story?

Tony changes from when he was big tough a bully in high school who bullied Roger because Roger had no parents and was in a orphanage, and also he was making fun of Rogers looks. But now he is very sorry about the way he acted and is trying to make up with Roger.

2. How does this change affect Roger?

I believe that at the beginning he was a bit wary about being friends with Tony again after all the bullying he has received from him, but in the end he changed his mind about it and i think he was quite happy about having a friend from high school.

3. What do you think Tony meant when he said, "I guess you're thinking, 'what goes around comes around"'?

I think that he meant that he was getting some sort of karma for bullying Tony in school, that is why he is in a wheel chair. 

4. Why do you think the author wrote this story? What message did the author want to convey?

I think that the author wanted to teach us that some people need second chances, and that we should give them.

The Bully

The bully is a literary short story about giving people a second chance while facing the consequences of Karma. In short, the story is about a boy called Roger, who meets his seventh grade bully at a restaurant. He broke his spine and needs his wife to push him around. Roger is completely fine, and while they discuss karma, they become friends again. There are several blog questions.

1. How does Tony's (the bully's) character change throughout the story?
At first he felt a little bad because he met up with his little victim from middle school but then all was forgiven and they started laughing.

2. How does this change affect Roger?
He feels nicer because finally he has friends

3. What do you think Tony meant when he said, "I guess you're thinking, what goes around comes around"?
Karma for all the bad things he did earlier in middle school to Roger

4. Why do you think the author wrote this story? What message did the author want to convey?
He wanted to convey that people should have a second chance because if you do something once you might not entirely mean it so it is not accurate to judge a person on one action.

Today we did something different because we finished the book.  We read a short story called The bully and we were given various questions to think about and answer.
1. How does the character of Tony change throughout the story.
Tony in high school did many things to bully Roger so maybe he was jealous and later in life he after he broke his back and couldn't walk anymore he realized the beauty in life and got a wife and became a good person
2. How does this change affect Roger.
It changes Roger's perspective on Tony and makes him want to give him a second chance.  He also wants to start a friendship with Tony so they can start over
3:What do you think Tony meant when he said, "I guess you're thinking, 'What goes around comes around'"
I think he meant that because he embarrassed Roger so much he deserved breaking his spine.  In other words it was Karma
4.  Why do you think the author wrote this story?  What message did the author want to convey
He wants to convey that everyone can change and that people, even the horrible ones, deserve a second chance
